Sora Community Services, previously known as Tamworth Family Support Services, is a community-based organisation, dedicated to empowering individuals and families throughout the New England North West region. We provide compassionate and high-quality support to help people overcome life’s challenges and thrive in their communities. Our organisation and team offer a safe, respectful confidential space where community members can access resources, guidance, and advocacy tailored to their needs.

Our wide range of services includes family and domestic violence support, homelessness and advocacy support, early intervention programs, and family support. Name change

Sora Community Services (formerly known as TFSS) has recently had a name change and rebrand.

Why the change?

Over the years, our organisation and services have expanded beyond Tamworth, prompting the need for a new name that better reflects who we are. To capture the full scope of our services, we’ve chosen a name that aligns with our mission and supports the diverse communities that we serve, without limiting us to a specific region or service.

What changed?

Our mission, location, and services remain the same. We are still the same organisation you can rely on for high-quality community care and support.

The story behind the name

The name Sora is inspired by the sky, symbolising the vast open spaces of our region, often called ‘Big Sky Country’. Our new logo features a star, representing integrity and a guiding light. Together, these elements reflect limitless possibilities and our commitment to providing quality support and care for individuals, families, and our wider community.

Our history, our story

The need for Family Support Programs in NSW was identified and debated in the late 1960s and early 1970s in the Federal Parliament. These programs grew out of the recognition that society was changing and that services needed to adapt to help provide the best support possible.

Tamworth Family Support Services was funded out of this scheme in 1979 as an incorporated association. In the years that followed, our programs expanded to include Homelessness, Youth, Community and Domestic Violence services. Our service footprint also expanded across the New England Northwest region. To accurately represent the communities that we support, our branding changed from Tamworth Family Support Service to ‘TFSS’ in 2015, and has recently changed to ‘Sora Community Services’ in 2024.
