Sora Community Services’ Green Ribbon Campaign has launched. The campaign focuses on giving children and young people a voice. It also calls on adults to advocate for them and take actions to help keep them safe.
The campaign includes 20 green ribbons which will be displayed on trees down Peel Street from Monday 8 September to Monday 15 September. The ribbons include quotes from young people about what makes them feel safe.
Quotes include:
“I feel safe when I’m not around strangers” – 5-12 year old, Inverell
“I feel safe when I’m with my family” – 5-12 year old, Tamworth
“I feel safe when I’m being listened to” – 5-12 year old, Inverell
A social media and online component of the campaign will amplify the campaign across the whole New England North West – raising awareness and continuing the conversation. Sora staff have made pledges to keep children and young people safe both in and out of work.
Bryarne Bielefeld, Manager Intensive Family Support said that children and young people are some of the most vulnerable people in our society.
“Children and young people deserve to have their voices heard. It’s our responsibility as adults to advocate for them and ensure their safety. Most importantly, we need to take actions to foster trust and emotional security. When building strong relationships with children we can actively listen to their voices and concerns so we can put the right interventions in place to support them. We need to keep listening and adapting as their needs and circumstances change.”
In the January to March 2025 quarter, a total of 100,579 concern reports were made in NSW. Of these concern reports:
- 2 % met the risk of significant harm (ROSH) threshold,
- 4 % were assessed as not meeting the ROSH threshold, and
- 5 % were classified as other.
